Our Curriculum
We have opened our Year 1 class now. Please find attached the Parents Curriculum Information.
Welcome to Year 1!
Our class teacher is Mrs Kaur, and she is assisted by Miss Kilner, Miss Palusiak, and Miss Harrison. In Year 1, we are making the exciting transition from FS2 into Key Stage 1. We are learning to become more independent and undertake new challenges in our learning. We still learn through practical activities, using a variety of resources to make our lessons engaging and enjoyable and keeping us curious!
Phonics Screening
During the Summer Term, Year 1 students will take part in the national phonics screening check. This is a statutory reading check that all Year 1 children will undertake. It is designed to ensure children are achieving or working close to the age-appropriate standard for decoding by the end of the year. This assessment helps us understand each child's phonic knowledge in identifying and blending sounds. Please see a parents' information leaflet for phonics below.
Homework
Homework is an important part of our learning, especially as we continue to build fluency in reading. We encourage children to read at home for at least 10 minutes, three times a week. This helps with their fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Additionally, they will bring home some harder to read and spell words. Happy reading!
Thank you for your ongoing support.
